Sydney Printer Wins Two 2022 Premier Print Awards Using Roland DG IU-1000F
Las Vegas, United States, November 8, 2022 – Roland DG Australia, a leading manufacturer of wide format inkjet printers and 3D devices, today announced that Body of Work, a division of Sydney Design and Print Agency Armstrong, won two wide format awards at last week’s Printing United Expo in Las Vegas.
The 3D wall mural entitled “Explosive” was printed on a Roland DG IU-1000F flatbed UV printer and won the 2022 Premier Print Award for Printed Product of the Year – Wide Format Inkjet Printing, and the Best of Category Award for Poster/Fine Art – Wide Format Inkjet Printing.
“There is eye catching contrast and sharpness in this piece. Very good edge definition against a flawless black background,” the judges commented for the Printed Product of the Year Award. For the Best of Category Award, the judges said: “Breathtaking use of depth and texture. Excellent execution. Beautiful fine details.”
For Bob Armstrong, owner of Body of Work, Roland DG has contributed to the Company’s success. “We see Roland DG as a creative partner in the endless journey of Body of Work. We were unknown on the world stage when we first entered these awards in 2012 and by 2020 we had become the most acclaimed brand in the 75-year history of these respected international awards. Roland DG has supported us all the way and has been a major contributor in that success.”
To create the image using the IU-1000F, multiple layers of gloss ink were laid down from spot channels created in Photoshop, giving the image depth and texture. Two channels of gloss ink in the IU-1000F made this process extremely efficient. CMYK ink was then overlaid on the gloss layers, with variable dot technology creating definition, smooth gradations and sharp colour output. The weight of the layers of varnish required it to be printed on a stable aluminium substrate. Bob was so impressed with the result that he “would recommend Roland DG to anyone requiring state of the art technology and support.”
The Premier Print Awards represent all areas of print production and this year’s competition recognised the projects of sign and display shops, commercial printers, package printers/converters, in-plants, trade binderies/finishers, graphic designers, and students. Just 10 winners were selected in wide format categories. To view the complete list of 2022 PRINTING United Alliance Premier Print Award winners, visit: https://premierprint.printing.org/winners
