Dentists were given a glimpse of the ‘future’ of clinical CAD-CAM available to them at a CAD-CAM chairside systems workshop for dentists, hosted by XYZ Dental at the Align Technology Training Centre in St Leonards, Sydney.
CAD-CAM Technology and Cost Vs Benefits
The information evening included sessions on the clinical CAD-CAM workflow and applications that are currently available. The session went through latest developments of the iTero intraoral scanner range, reviewing the exocad chairside CAD design software, through to the CAM process – integrating a Roland DGSHAPE milling machine and Asiga 3D printers designed specifically for dental applications.
Attendees heard how the clinical chairside CAD-CAM system, known as CLAUSS, can support chairside workflow automation, linking artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud–based design services to produce seamless high-end prosthetics in-house.
Dentists are urged to consider the cost/benefit ratio of upgrading to an integrated end-to-end digital workflow. There is less chance for errors, there are less steps and they have more control over a digital scan. Importantly, they have the ability to correct any problems before they go into the manufacturing phase.
Seamless Integration of CAD-CAM Technology
The practical hands-on session by all the presenters showcased the scalable options/choices available. The session demonstrated how the iTero intraoral scanner acquires highly detailed interoral scans that are used by exocad CAD design software which controls the precise milling achieved with a Roland DGSHAPE milling machine or Asiga 3D printer whilst creating a system that is integrated, open and scalable to the end user.
