Environment Matters with DTF Printing

Temperature and humidity can affect the performance of a DTF printer. The Roland VersaSTUDIO BY-20 direct-to-film printer should be operated between 20°C - 28°C with 50% humidity. Use of the printer outside those parameters may cause poor print quality. This quality loss usually presents itself with nozzle drop-out. A check for nozzle drop-out can be found with the execution of a test print using the BY Utility under the cleaning tab. Consider checking the temperature and humidity in the operating environment when persistent nozzle drop-out is present. Correct the environmental conditions as part of troubleshooting nozzle drop-out.

The environmental conditions can be improved by using an air conditioner or heater to bring the temperature into appropriate range. Using a humidifier that’s suitable for the room can help bring moisture into the area where the printer is operating. With that in mind, it’s a good idea to keep a digital hygrometer near the printer to know the temperature and humidity at any given time.

Environment matters for all DTF printers and should be a primary consideration when printing.
