SRM-20 Compact Milling Machine
The new SRM-20 was built on a rich heritage of Roland milling machines. Designed from the ground up with a number of technological advancements that make the SRM-20 the easiest to use, most precise CNC desktop mill in its class. The drive system features stepper motors that micro-step for clean, precision contours. Engineered for optimum efficiency and productivity, this next-generation desktop mill boasts a feed rate that is two times faster than previous MDX-15/20 models. A new independent collet system allows for faster setting of the Z-axis base point. The VPanel computer interface provides control over X,Y, Z axes as well as feed rate and spindle speed. The fully enclosed cover prevents dust from escaping and minimises noise level.

Mills a wide variety of standard materials
The SRM-20 is capable of precision milling a wide variety of materials, including modeling wax, chemical wood, foam, acrylic, poly acetate, ABS and PC board.
Virtual interface for simple operation
VPanel, the SRM-20’s computer controller, provides a simple interface, making it easy to adjust the tool position and set the starting point for milling by moving the cursor. The VPanel also allows you to control feed rate and spindle speed overrides, pause and resume operation, plus track X,Y,Z motions with a numeric readout in millimeters or inches.
Safety features and dust prevention for clean and secure use
The SRM-20 employs a fully-enclosed cabinet specially designed to reduce dust and noise. A window on the side of the cabinet makes it easy to view milling progress and adjust Z-axis depth. The cover also features an intelligent safety interlock that automatically pauses the machine when the cover is opened. Simply closing the cover and selecting “Continue” permits milling to resume. Older systems featured an emergency stop that required restarting the job from the beginning whenever the cover was opened.
Independent collet system for added efficiency
Previously, it was necessary to change spindles every time there was a different end mill shank diameter. Now you can replace the collet chuck in order to match the shank diameter which allows for fast setting of the Z-axis base point as well as quick tool changes. Using a set screw on the collet, you can tighten the tool in the collet, adjust the length of the tool and set the Z base point.
Rugged construction for durability and performance
The SRM-20 includes features usually found in high-end models. Airtight sealing technology prevents waste material from getting inside the spindle. The Y-axis is controled by a belt drive to make it more resistant to the effects of milling debris.
The SRM-20 can also be interfaced to many open-source development platforms including Arduino™, Raspberry Pi™ and BeagleBone Black™, allowing the development of new capabilities and functions.*.

Software suite included for out-of-the-box productivity and ease of use
Available for download from Roland OnSupport, bundled software includes VPanel for SRM-20, MODELA Player 4, iModela Creator, Virtual Modela, ClickMill and SFEdit2. The SRM-20 interprets both Roland RML code as well as industry standard NC code (G-code). A G-code command guide is available for operation of the SRM-20 from third party CAM programs. The SRM-20 supports a USB interface and Microsoft Windows. Device drivers are available in both 32 and 64-bit versions.
MODELA Player 4
MODELA Player 4 is an easy-to-use CAM software that processes STL files produced by popular CAD programs, including SolidWorks, Inventor, Rhino and others. It allows for uniform 3D scaling, selection of milling direction and automatic generation and display of the tool path. Cutting depths and speeds are controlled from a predefined material library or can be set to user-defined specifications.
Virtual MODELA provides a quick preview of the entire milling operation. This powerful feature eliminates milling errors, enables simulation of finished shapes and estimates production time. Lighting effects, material color or bitmap overlays can be added for accurate finished product representation.
iModela Creator allows you to create and mill shapes, holes, textures and patterns with precision right out of the box. Intuitive menus and icons make design and production easy. With iModela Creator, you can also access drawing tools to sketch out ideas. Then simply load your cutting material into the mill, and SRM-20 does the rest, recreating your design in precise detail.
ClickMill software enables direct control of the SRM-20 for surfacing, drilling holes, cutting pockets and other finishing processes, all without accessing CAD or CAM software.
SFEdit2 software converts any standard TrueType or Outline font into a ‘Stroke Font’ or single line font for engraving.
