15-Dec-2010 Roland DG bring LO-FI Collective artists work to life
LO-FI Collective is Australia's premier arts program has proved itself to be at the forefront of collective arts projects. Over the past 20 weeks it has housed and showcased an outstanding array of local and international artists, designers and photographers.
On the 7th December 2010, Roland DG Australia, the official print sponsor of the LO-FI Collective, held a special demonstration day for all previous exhibiting artists. The session allowed artists to witness firsthand the fine art printing process and the vast range of creative finishes available with Roland's selection of digital printers and media.
Anthony McCausland, Marketing Communications & Graphic Designer at Roland DG remarked:
"The LO-FI Collective was a fantastic project to be involved with and Roland has produced some amazing prints over the last few months. The spectacular artwork that came through the LO-FI Collective enabled Roland to push new boundaries for eco-solvent and UV LED printing for fine art and photography.
The recent Demo Session held at the LO-FI Collective gallery was a fantastic opportunity to further demonstrate the specialised features of the Roland printers and allow artists to explore new creative effects such as UV Gloss, embossing and metallic's. We received a great range of creative pieces submitted by various artists and photographers who attended the session to view the results and learn more about the process.
ll the artists were amazed at the results with the Roland VS and LEC Series printers, and many were keen to start using these effects in their print design."
Curator of the LO-FI Collective, Marty Routledge commented:
"Roland DG's wide format printing is second to none. The Giclée quality and their range of media - in particular the textured art stocks, make illustrations and paintings unidentifiable as replicas. Their support of both LO-FI collective and Go Font Ur Self, has positioned Roland DG at the forefront of fine art digital printing."
The relationship between LO-FI and Roland DG will continue to build, as McCausland adds:
"We look forward to working with LO-FI Collective in the future and continuing to push creativity in print to the next level."

Coming into the season of festivities and indulgence, it is an important time to reflect on how fortunate our lives are. Roland DG, a leading supplier of solutions to the Graphic Arts, Design and Technology industries have done their bit to help those in need by recently sponsoring 2 charity fundraising events.

Staff from Roland DG donned the Santa suits and made the journey from Palm Grove at Darling Harbour to the steps of the Sydney Opera House and raised over $800 for Variety, The Children's Charity.
In early November, the Sydney to Gong bike ride was held in support of people and families living with MS. Roland DG sponsored multimedia company The Squad, who with 10 of their staff took on the 90km ride and managed to raise over $8000 for the charity.

A great effort by all those involved in both events, and Roland DG looks forward to continuing their support next year.

26-Nov-2010 Roland DJR Print Room
The sky's the limit in the Roland DJR Print Room
Not only has technology affected the way V8 Supercar Teams run, it's also affected how they look.
When Dick Johnson Racing came into being 30 years ago, car and team branding was a fairly basic business. Today, graphics are intricate, colours rich and life-like. And no V8 Supercar team has quite embraced current technology like DJR, who thanks to partner Roland DG Australia, a leading provider of wide-format inkjet printers and printer/cutters to, can now boast one of the most high-tech and versatile print rooms in Australian motor sport.
Roland DG Australia sponsored the DJR owned Jim Beam Racing for the 2010 V8 Supercar season which included ongoing technical support for the teams signage needs, using Roland DG's state of the art vinyl cutting and digital print technologies. "Our relationship with DJR gives Roland DG an array of marketing opportunities to further raise awareness and promote the Roland DG brand within the Australian Motorsport industry and the general public" said John Wall, Roland DG Sales & Marketing Manager. "Roland DG aims to promote the use of vehicle wraps and specialised print solutions through sponsorship such as this."
Established mid-2010, The Roland DJR Print Room houses a Roland CAMM-1 PRO cutter and Roland SOLJET PROIII print and cut XC-540MT run with Roland VersaWorksTM RIP Software.
Keith 'KC' Chesterton, who heads up DJR's paint and panel division, credits Roland with revolutionising the way the department works. "We do a huge amount of printing," said KC. "Everything from car and truck graphics, pit-boards and garage walls to merchandise products such as stickers, cut-outs and drink bottles."
"With Roland's support, not only have we have been able to bring everything in house, we've been able to expand our capabilities" KC continues. "Deb Lederhose has come across to DJR to drive the print room. Her knowledge, combined with Roland's technical expertise and service, has allowed us to really increase the scope of what we can do. For example, we used to hand cut the stickers for the car and when you consider how many car panels and bars we go through over the year the time really adds up, so the print and cut feature of the Roland SOLJET PROIII has saved us huge amounts of time."
KC is also impressed by the print quality - "We are the only team with an in-house facility used to create resale products," he said. "And that's because of the quality of the printers and the ECO-SOL MAX™ inks from Roland."
"If it wasn't for Roland we wouldn't have this space. That's why we've called it the Roland DJR Print Room. The sky's the limit now!"

09-Nov-2010 New VersaCUT Print Trimmers
Roland DG Introduce New VersaCUT Print Trimmers
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, November 9, 2010 - Roland DG Australia, a leading provider of wide-format inkjet printers and printer/cutters, has introduced the VersaCUT line of print trimmers engineered specifically for production graphics shops. Available in both manual and crank assisted models, the VersaCUT trimmers allow sign, screen and print-for-pay shops to trim finished prints with ease and accuracy.
"The VersaCUT trimmers are affordable and designed with features that significantly reduce errors and make the trimming process easier for both flexible and rigid graphics," said John Wall, Sales & Marketing Manager at Roland DG Australia. "The VersaCUT CR models are the industry's only products that bridge the gap between hand units and fully mechanised trimmers or expensive wall cutters."
VersaCUT Manual Trimmers
Available in 1020mm (44"), 1730mm (68") and 2540mm (100") widths, the VersaCUT manual trimmers are designed to cut flexible or rigid substrates. This model supports a wide range of media including vinyl, paper, Coroplast™ and foamboard and can cut Sintra™ in multiple passes. It transitions easily between substrates without the need for any adjustment or changes to setup.
VersaCUT trimmers are compact, lightweight and constructed almost entirely of aluminium and stainless steel for stable operation and resistance to rust and corrosion. Unlike many rotary trimmers, VersaCUT allows users to see exactly where the cut will be placed on the substrate. Blade changes are fast and easy with replacement blades priced from just $0.55 each. An optional stand is available which includes a roll hanger to support full rolls of printed graphics.
VersaCUT CR Crank Assisted Model
Offered in 1220mm (48") and 1830mm (72") sizes, VersaCUT CR crank assisted trimmers are designed to cut Sintra™, Gatorfoam™, Coroplast™ and other rigid substrates up to 12.7mm (1/2") thick without the complexity of a motorised unit and at a fraction of the cost.
VersaCUT CR can be secured to a workbench and easily repositioned to meet the needs of each individual job. By contrast, wall trimmers require users to trim at a fixed station and to position prints vertically for trimming. VersaCUT CR requires just 35 psi of compressed air to operate. Its standard dual blade holder supports hard substrates and an optional single blade holder is available for higher speed cutting of softer materials.
For more information download the VersaCUT flyer or visit www.rolanddg.com.au/versacut.
The VersaCUT Print Trimmers are available from authorised Roland DG dealers or contact Roland DG today on 1800 500 119 / email sales@rolanddg.com.au.

CGS ORIS Color Tuner // Web Supports the Latest Roland Metallic and UV-LED Inkjet Printer/Cutters for the Ultimate Solution of Packaging Proofing
The new Roland DG VersaCAMM 54" VS-540, 42" VS-420 and 30" VS-300 eco solvent printer/cutters released today feature the award-winning Metallic Silver ink that not only adds luxury to signs and banners but also provides a unique and cost effective solution to package proofing and mock-ups.
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, September 7 , 2010 - Roland DG Corporation, a leading worldwide provider of wide-format inkjet printers and printer/cutters, and CGS Publishing Technologies International, a global leader of colour management solutions, digital proofing solutions and specially formulated media, announced today that the version 1.2 of the award-winning ORIS Color Tuner // Web fully supports the entire range of the Roland VersaCAMM VS series inkjet printer/cutters featuring Metallic Silver and White ECO-SOL MAX™ inks.
Cooperating closely with Roland DG and several leading brand-oriented packaging companies worldwide, CGS has developed a breakthrough solution that finally answers the requirements for packaging proofing. There is a growing trend in consumer packaging for increasingly using metallic ink and elaborate print finishing on a growing number of substrates, including PE and PET plastics, composite materials, transparent and aluminium foils. This creates a number of costly problems at the design and prepress stage as the proofing technology, including white and metallic, has been inaccurate, cumbersome and expensive.
ORIS Color Tuner // Web, with its patented four dimensional iterative colour matching software, gives users the choice of continuous or halftone output with the same colour accuracy. The ORIS ScreenDot Plus option processes final 1-Bit files or lets the user chose from a number of built-in screen sets and line rulings. The ECO-SOL MAX™ high-density inks including Metallic Silver and White offer a wide process colour gamut and can be used on a wide range of substrates. The Roland Print&Cut feature enables the production of colour accurate short run labels without press plates or die cutting required.
Printing industry customers who need the versatility to print on any kind of substrates that match the original materials and want to simulate the unique finishing effects like spot varnish and embossing, will prefer the range of Roland VersaUV UV-LED inkjet printer/cutters, the 30" LEC-330 and the new 54" LEC-540, featuring ECO-UV inks in CMYK, White and Clear gloss, also supported by ORIS Color Tuner // Web.
John Wall, Sales & Marketing Manager, Roland DG, comments: "When we were shown the first actual production proofs produced on the VersaCAMM 64" VS-640 with ORIS Color Tuner // Web at a CGS beta customer, we were amazed by the unique quality and colour accuracy of the combined solution. We expect it to revolutionise the packaging market in a very short period of time. Now designs with white and metallic vignettes, varying opacities and complex spread and chokes can be correctly interpreted and proofed."
Trevor Haworth, CEO of CGS Publishing Technologies comments: "Following on from our successes with the Roland VersaUV line, we are excited that our close cooperation with Roland DG now extends to two product lines and various sizes of printers giving users the choice and providing significant value to package designers and production companies, finally making the legacy technology that has dominated packaging proofing for so long obsolete."

17-Aug-2010 Roland DG Cartridge Recycling
Roland DG Australia Recycle 1600kgs of Ink Cartridges
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, August 17, 2010 - Roland DG Australia, in partnership with Close The Loop®, recently recycled 1612kgs of Roland Ink Cartridges. As part of its Cartridge Recycling Program, Roland DG collects empty ink cartridges returned by customers, and delivers these empty cartridges in bulk to Close the Loop® to recycle, with zero waste, to landfill.
As an important part of Roland DG's commitment to the environment, the Cartridge Recycling Program was launched in 2008. With industry estimates that over 1 billion ink jet cartridges are used worldwide every year, and in 2009 that number exceeded 2 billion, Roland DG's Cartridge Recycle programme (CR) is a crucial initiative for the industry and the environment. All of Roland DG's cartridges can be recycled, including ECO-SOL MAXTM, EcoXtreme and EcoXtreme LT cartridges.
Close the Loop® was founded in late 2000, with the specific goals of recycling toner and inkjet cartridges with zero waste to landfill, and returning the raw materials back to the original manufacturer for reuse in new printers and cartridges. Close the Loop® provides these services to OEM's, co-ordinating takeback from countries right around the world for state of the art recycling and resource recovery at their facility in Melbourne, Australia.
Roland DG's environmental pedigree started a long time ago, and in 2003 Roland DG revolutionised the digital ink jet print industry by introducing ECO-SOL Inks. Breaking new ground, Roland's eco-solvent inks finally eliminated harmful VOC's that required expensive and cumbersome ventilation extraction units. At the end of 2005 Roland DG released the second-generation eco-solvent inks, ECO-SOL MAXTM. ECO-SOL MAXTM retained all of the attributes of the original inks, with the added refinements of faster drying times, reduced costs, an even wider gamut, extremely high colour density, supreme durability and of course no harmful VOC's.
With Roland DG's commitment towards a cleaner, safer and an environmentally responsible workplace, the ECO labelling system was introduced in 2007. Roland DG is committed to ensuring that Roland products meet strict environmental guidelines such as: the prevention of global warming, the use of recyclable resources, the increase in environmental awareness and finally to disclose information on the environmental aspects of the product.
"By using Roland OEM inks you are getting a lot more than just the best quality inks on the market, you also get access to premium services such as the Cartridge Recycling Program" said John Wall, from Roland DG. "This is an excellent program to take advantage of and do your bit for the environment."
By visiting or sending your empty cartridges to Roland DG's Sydney or Melbourne office, any authorised Roland DG dealer or Authorised Service Agent in Australia you can do your part to help the environment and assist Roland DG Australia in attaining our own goals for the environment. That's all you need to do, Roland DG will do the rest.

29-Jun-2010 New DWX-30 Dental Milling Machine
Roland Introduces the DWX-30 Dental Milling Machine
Sydney, Australia, June 29, 2010 - Roland DG Corporation, a leading worldwide provider of 3D engraving and milling technologies, today announced the new DWX-30 dental milling machine, a highly efficient, precision production tool for creating copings and crowns from zirconia.
Dental crowns and bridges are typically produced by dental labs. Cosmetic dentistry standards require crowns to closely match the natural tooth. Zirconia (zirconium dioxide, ZrO2) is a ceramic material with excellent durability and biocompatibility. Widely used for dental prostheses because of its translucent, white appearance, it must be milled to achieve its final form.
"Because of the price and performance characteristics of zirconia, it is rapidly becoming the new standard for copings and crowns," said Matthew Landrigan, Roland DG 3D Product Specialist. "Previously, only large-scale labs could afford the facility and equipment required to mill zirconia. Now, labs everywhere can rely on the DWX-30 to mill attractive zirconia copings and crowns at an affordable cost."
Currently, most dental milling systems require a costly investment and dedicated production room. Roland's new DWX-30 eliminates these issues by providing a cost-effective, compact and easy-to-use solution that can be implemented in most dental office environments. The DWX-30 is an open platform supporting dental CAD/CAM software.
The product of extensive research within the dental community, the DWX-30 reflects the input of artisans and dentists worldwide and is available from dental industry distributors authorized by Roland DG. Roland is currently establishing partnerships with system integrators as well to create a complete production solution including the mill, scanner and software.
Roland DWX-30 Features:
- 4-axis control (XYZ axes and rotary axis (A axis)
- Allows materials to be tilted ±20 degrees
- Produces high-quality copings, crowns and bridges ul
- Three types of clamps are included, one for disks and two for blocks, making it easy to securely hold a wide variety of material
- Clear dust collection capsule captures all milling materials for a clean environment free of dust particles
- Tool sensor automates machine and tool set up for significant time savings
- Desktop device compact enough for small office spaces and easy to relocate to accommodate new office layouts

07-Jun-2010 Counterfeit Inks in the Marketplace
Roland DG warns customers about counterfeit inks in the Australia/New Zealand marketplace
Sydney, Australia, June 7, 2010 - Roland DG Corporation, a leading worldwide provider of wide-format inkjet printers and printer/cutters, today issued a warning that individuals and businesses are promoting and selling counterfeit ECO-SOL MAX™ ink cartridges to the Australian market, designed to look like the genuine cartridge and thus misleading the market. Roland DG is pursuing appropriate actions in this regard, however feels it necessary to advise customers immediately.
The content of these fake cartridges could be harmful to both users and Roland machines. The fraudulent cartridge looks almost the identical to the genuine ECO-SOL MAX™ cartridge, with a few minor differences, thus making it hard to tell them apart for the customer. The important difference to look out for is that the genuine cartridge has the 'Roland DG Corporation' logo. The physical packaging also differs slightly to the genuine product.
Roland DG recommends customers to purchase ECO-SOL MAX™ cartridges only from an 'Authorised Roland DG Dealer' displaying the logo (pictured) and to make sure that the cartridge has the 'Roland DG Corporation' logo before installing it in the printer.
If you have unknowingly purchased one of the counterfeit cartridges please contact Roland DG immediately, as these cartridges may affect your warranty if used.

15-Feb-2010 Roland DG Invests in Trade Training Centre
Sydney Australia, February 15, 2010 - Roland DG, a leading worldwide provider of wide-format inkjet printers and Print&Cut devices, with the support of Conect Enterprises, is investing in Australia's industrial future - through the Australia's first secondary school Trade Training Centre.
The Trade Training Centre, at the year 11 and 12 Catholic Regional College, Sydenham, will operate business units where students can learn a practical trade in a real-life business environment.
A feature of the Trade Training Centre will be the Roland Print & Design Centre where students can gain experience in the signage and graphics arts industry.
CRC Sydenham Principal Brendan Watson has welcomed the partnership. "Roland and Conect's generous involvement in this exciting educational initiative cements a vital link between the school and the signage industry," Mr Watson said."While helping to address the skills shortage in Australia, it will provide students with opportunities for their future that can only be achieved when industry and schools work in partnership. This is a unique collaboration that will benefit hundreds of students over the next few years."
Roland DG has invested in the college through the supply of machinery, including a VP-540i Print&Cut machine as well as a GX-500 50" Cutter and an MPX-80 Photo Impact printer, to drive all the creative needs of the centre. Conect Enterprises will be the major supplier of all signage materials to the school, such as digital media, sign vinyls and accessories, making a significant donation to kick off the 2010 school year.
"Roland DG is proud to be investing in the future of the Graphic Arts and Signage industry," says John Wall, Sales & Marketing Manager at Roland DG. "Catholic Regional College Sydenham is a progressive and innovative school and we are excited to partner with them to give the students access to the very best equipment to learn the skills needed to excel when they enter the workforce."
Paul Coniglio, Marketing Manager at Conect Enterprises, is also pleased to be supporting this unique initiative. "The trade training centre will allow young people to have the skills required to prepare them to work in graphic design, sign writing, or digital printing," Mr Coniglio said. "With technology making the industry more accessible, it's an important step to take signage and print education into secondary schools. This will also assist with the shortage of qualified young people available when business owners need trained staff. It's great for our company to give something back to our industry."
CRC Sydenham Principal Brendan Watson is equally enthusiastic: "Roland DG's investment in the Catholic Regional College Trade Training Centre is an investment in the future of Australia. Students will have choices like never before. Partnerships with industry leaders like Roland are crucial so that students can have such opportunities."
