14-Feb-2012 Roland DG Intruduces the METAZA MPX-90M
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, FEBRUARY 14, 2012 - Roland DG Corp., a leading worldwide provider of 3D milling
, engraving and direct part marking technologies, today introduced the new METAZA MPX-90M, a desktop impact printer designed to permanently mark UDI (Unique Device Identification) barcodes on medical instruments for tracking and traceability. Incorporating 30 years of Roland's proven technology, the MPX-90M quickly creates two-dimensional (2D) DataMatrix barcodes that meet GS1*1 standards, and imprints them on the surface of medical instruments with high speed and precision. MPX-90M barcodes can be read with commercially available barcode scanners*2 to trace and track the usage of medical instruments throughout their lifecycle.
"To protect the safety of patients, medical professionals need a reliable way to trace and track the usage of instruments such as scalpels, tweezers and forceps," said Matthew Landrigan, Roland DG 3D product manager. "The new MPX-90M has been exclusively designed for this application, marking tools and devices with lasting barcodes, serial numbers and other information. Among the industry's most precise direct part marking tools, the MPX-90M creates 2D DataMatrix barcodes as small as one square millimeter."
The MPX-90M imprints data on a wide variety of materials*3 without generating any odor or debris. Because it does not burn or remove materials, marked surfaces remain protected from corrosion. With the MPX-90M, no special training is required. The included vise makes it easy to secure an item and a built-in laser pointer pinpoints the exact area to be marked. Its compact footprint and energy efficiency make the MPX-90M ideal for small office settings, as well as medical-instrument manufacturers and suppliers.
METAZA MPX-90M Features
- Durable diamond-tipped stylus directly imprints on titanium, stainless steel and other hard metals*3
- Quickly imprints 26 digits of information inside an area as small as one square millimeter
- Clean, high-speed precision marking does not burn or remove material on impact
- Operation is free of odors and debris
- Marked area will not rust
- Includes GS1 standard 2D DataMatrix barcode software
- Imports CSV spreadsheet files for variable data printing which allows for serialisation of barcodes
- Imprints logos, text and graphics in jpg or bmp file formats to incorporate branding elements and other customised data
- Easy to setup and use with the included vise and built-in laser pointer and no special training or daily maintenance required
- Compact footprint and energy efficient design make it ideal for small office settings, as well as medical instrument manufacturers and suppliers
- The built-in laser pointer is safe to use, with a fully enclosed, class 1 laser
Included METAZAStudio Software Generates UDI Numbers
The MPX-90M comes with METAZAStudio software, which includes a 2D DataMatrix barcode feature. To create a unique barcode, simply select the barcode icon from the software's main screen and enter the appropriate UDI numbers. The software does the rest, creating a 2D DataMatrix barcode that can be output on the MPX-90M. METAZAStudio also imports CSV files for variable data printing to add 2D DataMatrix barcodes with a series of numbers and text. METAZAStudio also imprints logos and graphics in jpg, bmp or Adobe Illustrator 8 (ai/eps) file formats to incorporate branding elements.
For more information download the MPX-90M Brochure, or contact Roland DG today on 1800 500 119 / email sales@rolanddg.com.au.

28-Nov-2011 Colour-Accurate Proofing and Mock-up Solutions
CGS, Roland DG and Revolution Transfers join forces to offer a portfolio of color-accurate packaging proofing and mock-up solutions that now include metallics.
Successful UK Roland DG dealer Revolution Transfers to represent ORIS color management solutions for packaging and large format applications throughout the UK. Being first to the proofing market with an eco-solvent solution that includes metallic and white ink capabilities.
Like the Roland VersaUV series, the solution includes integrated print and cut within the same device, a wide range of media options and costs per proof which are a fraction compared to laser based legacy systems or even water based inkjet technology.
Hainburg (Germany) / Minneapolis MN, (November 28, 2011) – CGS Publishing Technologies International, global leader of color management solutions, digital proofing systems and specially formulated media, announced today that Revolution Transfers, Coalville, Leicestershire has become a CGS reseller. Revolution Transfers will represent the CGS packaging and large format color management products in the UK, particularly concentrating on end-to-end solution bundles, including the award-winning ORIS Color Tuner // Web and Roland DG’s VersaUV LEC and VersaCAMM VS printer ranges.
"We have been highly successful in selling the innovative Roland DG VersaUV LEC print, cut and crease range in the UK, which enables printing onto own stock with white and gloss inks. As a natural extension, we immediately saw the enormous impact Roland’s VersaCAMM VS printer/cutter series would have on the flexible packaging market”, states Jan Edgecombe, Managing Director of Revolution Transfers.
“The VersaCAMM VS printer/cutters feature eco-solvent ink technology that will deliver highly color accurate proofs, with integrated print and cut within the same device, and include white and metallic ink on media that is an incredibly close match to the substrates used in the final production. However we recognised the included RIP could not fulfil the demanding color management requirements of the packaging industry,” explains Edgecombe.
“When Roland DG introduced the ORIS solution from CGS, we were immediately enthusiastic about it. Taking the complex requirements of the demanding packaging industry into account, ORIS Color Tuner // Web enables you to produce results which are absolutely stunning.
CGS also provides a full range of substrates, ranging from an ultra-thin clear film to metallised film and even shrink foil. We can therefore offer a complete end-to-end solution, including hardware, software and media, along with reference profiles, complete with the option of special, value added white and metallic ink,” concludes Edgecombe.
Steve Chappell, Business Manager at Roland DG (UK) Ltd comments: “We are absolutely delighted with this new agreement and it is fantastic to be the first to the proofing and packaging market with an end-to-end solution that can utilise both metallic and white ink. Revolution Transfers are re ally opening up a variety of options for these customers, with the use of special inks and effects that can be created on Roland’s printer/cutters. Both Roland VersaUV and VersaCAMM products offer customers a wider range of printable materials whilst reducing printing costs when compared to water based proofing technology.”
"We are very pleased to be working with Revolution Transfers. Their team has an outstanding reputation in the UK market and a broad expertise in color management, which is necessary to understand the requirements of complex environments like the packaging industry,” states Heiner Mueller, Director of Communications & Business Development at CGS.
“The tie-up with CGS and Revolution Transfers now enables Roland DG to offer a color managed solution for the eco-solvent VersaCAMM VS range as well as the VersaUV LEC range, providing a cost-effective end-to-end packaging proofing solution that includes both metallic and white.” Müller concludes.
For further information about Revolution Transfers, visit www.revolutiontransfers.co.uk . For details on Roland DG’s VersaUV LEC or VersaCAMM VS printer range, suitable for the flexible packaging market visit www.rolanddg.com.au and for more information on color management from CGS visit www.cgs-oris.com .

25-Jan-2011 Floods Support Programme
The Floods and Roland DG Support Programme
It is most regrettable that we need to start our first communication for 2011 regarding such a tragic event, but we felt it important to advise our partners and customers regarding their equipment as soon as possible for those affected by the natural disaster that is sweeping Queensland, NSW and Victoria.
Our thoughts and best wishes are with those who are affected and touched by this disaster.
We would like to advise on how to best handle your electronic and production equipment.
- Water exposure can make equipment dangerous to inspect, test and operate so please use extreme caution in doing so.
- Equipment can short out when powered on as the chassis could become 'live' and endanger lives
- Always get professional advice before attempting to powering on electrical devices if unsure.
Water damage and the after effects of water damage will impact on a machines ability to operate.
- Water can damage production equipment, from gears to bearings, rail assemblies, motors, rollers, electronic circuitry and more.
- Rust can settle in either immediately or within a short amount of time, this is exacerbated because the water is not 'clean' and can leave residue over components and potentially create electrical shorts.
- High levels of humidity and moisture can enter your equipment. This can, like water itself, cause issues outlined above.
Power outages and fluctuations can also have a major impact on electrical and electro-mechanical products. Over both the short and long term there are procedures that can assist you when expecting outages that should be implemented, our service people are available to advise specifically for your type of machine/s if you contact them on 1-800-500-119.
Initially Roland DG will arrange a service technician to visit affected areas in the coming weeks at no cost to the customers. If you require assistance or your business has been affected, please contact us through service@rolanddg.com.au or call 1-800-500-119. Roland DG will review damaged or moisture affected Roland equipment and advise condition thereof.
Roland DG is endeavouring to find additional ways to assist those affected and has developed assistance programmes accordingly, from special Roland Rental programmes through to new equipment programmes where needed. Please contact Roland DG or your Authorised Roland DG dealer for more details on how we can assist you to get your business back up and running.
We understand that this is a very stressful time for families and friends, however should there be any questions please do not hesitate to contact Roland DG directly for assistance on 1-800-500-119. One of our staff will be more than willing to arrange assistance or offer advice.

LO-FI Collective is Australia's premier arts program has proved itself to be at the forefront of collective arts projects. Over the past 20 weeks it has housed and showcased an outstanding array of local and international artists, designers and photographers.
On the 7th December 2010, Roland DG Australia, the official print sponsor of the LO-FI Collective, held a special demonstration day for all previous exhibiting artists. The session allowed artists to witness firsthand the fine art printing process and the vast range of creative finishes available with Roland's selection of digital printers and media.
Anthony McCausland, Marketing Communications & Graphic Designer at Roland DG remarked:
"The LO-FI Collective was a fantastic project to be involved with and Roland has produced some amazing prints over the last few months. The spectacular artwork that came through the LO-FI Collective enabled Roland to push new boundaries for eco-solvent and UV LED printing for fine art and photography.
The recent Demo Session held at the LO-FI Collective gallery was a fantastic opportunity to further demonstrate the specialised features of the Roland printers and allow artists to explore new creative effects such as UV Gloss, embossing and metallic's. We received a great range of creative pieces submitted by various artists and photographers who attended the session to view the results and learn more about the process.
ll the artists were amazed at the results with the Roland VS and LEC Series printers, and many were keen to start using these effects in their print design."
Curator of the LO-FI Collective, Marty Routledge commented:
"Roland DG's wide format printing is second to none. The Giclée quality and their range of media - in particular the textured art stocks, make illustrations and paintings unidentifiable as replicas. Their support of both LO-FI collective and Go Font Ur Self, has positioned Roland DG at the forefront of fine art digital printing."
The relationship between LO-FI and Roland DG will continue to build, as McCausland adds:
"We look forward to working with LO-FI Collective in the future and continuing to push creativity in print to the next level."

26-Nov-2010 Roland DJR Print Room
The sky's the limit in the Roland DJR Print Room
Not only has technology affected the way V8 Supercar Teams run, it's also affected how they look.
When Dick Johnson Racing came into being 30 years ago, car and team branding was a fairly basic business. Today, graphics are intricate, colours rich and life-like. And no V8 Supercar team has quite embraced current technology like DJR, who thanks to partner Roland DG Australia, a leading provider of wide-format inkjet printers and printer/cutters to, can now boast one of the most high-tech and versatile print rooms in Australian motor sport.
Roland DG Australia sponsored the DJR owned Jim Beam Racing for the 2010 V8 Supercar season which included ongoing technical support for the teams signage needs, using Roland DG's state of the art vinyl cutting and digital print technologies. "Our relationship with DJR gives Roland DG an array of marketing opportunities to further raise awareness and promote the Roland DG brand within the Australian Motorsport industry and the general public" said John Wall, Roland DG Sales & Marketing Manager. "Roland DG aims to promote the use of vehicle wraps and specialised print solutions through sponsorship such as this."
Established mid-2010, The Roland DJR Print Room houses a Roland CAMM-1 PRO cutter and Roland SOLJET PROIII print and cut XC-540MT run with Roland VersaWorksTM RIP Software.
Keith 'KC' Chesterton, who heads up DJR's paint and panel division, credits Roland with revolutionising the way the department works. "We do a huge amount of printing," said KC. "Everything from car and truck graphics, pit-boards and garage walls to merchandise products such as stickers, cut-outs and drink bottles."
"With Roland's support, not only have we have been able to bring everything in house, we've been able to expand our capabilities" KC continues. "Deb Lederhose has come across to DJR to drive the print room. Her knowledge, combined with Roland's technical expertise and service, has allowed us to really increase the scope of what we can do. For example, we used to hand cut the stickers for the car and when you consider how many car panels and bars we go through over the year the time really adds up, so the print and cut feature of the Roland SOLJET PROIII has saved us huge amounts of time."
KC is also impressed by the print quality - "We are the only team with an in-house facility used to create resale products," he said. "And that's because of the quality of the printers and the ECO-SOL MAX™ inks from Roland."
"If it wasn't for Roland we wouldn't have this space. That's why we've called it the Roland DJR Print Room. The sky's the limit now!"

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, November 9, 2010 - Roland DG Australia, a leading provider of wide-format inkjet printers and printer/cutters, has introduced the VersaCUT line of print trimmers engineered specifically for production graphics shops. Available in both manual and crank assisted models, the VersaCUT trimmers allow sign, screen and print-for-pay shops to trim finished prints with ease and accuracy.
"The VersaCUT trimmers are affordable and designed with features that significantly reduce errors and make the trimming process easier for both flexible and rigid graphics," said John Wall, Sales & Marketing Manager at Roland DG Australia. "The VersaCUT CR models are the industry's only products that bridge the gap between hand units and fully mechanised trimmers or expensive wall cutters."
VersaCUT Manual Trimmers
Available in 1020mm (44"), 1730mm (68") and 2540mm (100") widths, the VersaCUT manual trimmers are designed to cut flexible or rigid substrates. This model supports a wide range of media including vinyl, paper, Coroplast™ and foamboard and can cut Sintra™ in multiple passes. It transitions easily between substrates without the need for any adjustment or changes to setup.
VersaCUT trimmers are compact, lightweight and constructed almost entirely of aluminium and stainless steel for stable operation and resistance to rust and corrosion. Unlike many rotary trimmers, VersaCUT allows users to see exactly where the cut will be placed on the substrate. Blade changes are fast and easy with replacement blades priced from just $0.55 each. An optional stand is available which includes a roll hanger to support full rolls of printed graphics.
VersaCUT CR Crank Assisted Model
Offered in 1220mm (48") and 1830mm (72") sizes, VersaCUT CR crank assisted trimmers are designed to cut Sintra™, Gatorfoam™, Coroplast™ and other rigid substrates up to 12.7mm (1/2") thick without the complexity of a motorised unit and at a fraction of the cost.
VersaCUT CR can be secured to a workbench and easily repositioned to meet the needs of each individual job. By contrast, wall trimmers require users to trim at a fixed station and to position prints vertically for trimming. VersaCUT CR requires just 35 psi of compressed air to operate. Its standard dual blade holder supports hard substrates and an optional single blade holder is available for higher speed cutting of softer materials.
