The application of this philosophy has made Body of Work the benchmark in establishing and applying original creative directions primarily in communication strategy, design, photography and the establishment of new frontiers in print.

Marc Margetts, Managing Director at Roland DG Australia was proud that Roland could play an integral part in this unique project. 21-May-2013 Roland DG Giving Purpose to their Print at PacPrint
As part of their production print demonstrations at the show, Roland DG Australia will be printing over 1000 square meters of print for several well known non profit organisations to help promote their current campaigns and causes.
Sydney, Australia, May 22, 2013 - Leading wide format manufacturer Roland DG Australia is running a unique program at PacPrint and Visual Impact that will see Roland DG delivering large format prints for several non-profit organisations as part of their printer demonstrations at the show.
Roland DG will be one of the hundreds of exhibitors at PacPrint that will be showcasing the latest in print technology. A big part of showcasing these devices is of course printing samples in order to demonstrate the printing speeds, print quality and range of applications possible.
Having attended many exhibitions over the years, John Wall, Sales Director at Roland DG Australia, is very familiar with the amount of sample print that is produced at a big trade show such as PacPrint. "Typically, we produce lots of print over the five days of the exhibition, running sample prints to demonstrate our wide format devices," said John. "In fact, our new PRO4 XF-640 in particular runs so fast that it can literally go through a 50 metre roll of media with commercial grade print, in under an hour."
"Too often this print just go to waste, with much of it simply thrown out by visitors or exhibitors. You can only imagine the total amount of 'demonstration' print that will be printed at this show by all the exhibitors! So at Roland DG, we plan to give this print purpose."
Roland DG Australia is partnering with Oxfam Australia, World Vision Australia, SurfAid and industry organisation VISA, to deliver over 1000 square metersof useable print for various campaigns these organisations are running. Thanks to media partners, Shil and Avery, Roland DG will be using Sihl Quadrosorb 3526 matte poster paper and Avery 4130 for banners.
SurfAid's Director, Marketing and Communications, Kirk Willcox, said it was a great initiative from Roland DG Australia and much appreciated. "Being a small, non-profit organisation we have little budget for printing new marketing collateral," Willcox said. "This is of great benefit for our organization in helping to promote awareness of our work and we applaud Roland DG Australia for their creative thinking to benefit non-profits."
Zane Kuramoto, Creative Director at World Vision Australia was also grateful for the support - "These generously donated large scale prints will offer our staff and supporters the opportunity to see a selection of our beautiful photographs like never before and reconnect with the people we serve from communities all around the world. For this, we're truly thankful."
"We are excited to be able to support these great causes," said Marc Margetts, Managing Director at Roland DG Australia. "What better way to use our printing at the show than to offer it to organisations that do such good work in the community and around the world. We hope these prints help to make a great impact for these organisations."

04-Feb-2013 Roland DG Open New Manufacturing Factory in Thailand
ROLAND DG CORPORATION OPENS FIRST MANUFACTURING FACTORY OUTSIDE OF JAPAN. New Factory in the Kingdom of Thailand will serve as the Worldwide Export Hub for the Group.
Sydney, Australia, February 4, 2013 -Roland DG Corporation of Japan, the world's leading manufacturer of wide-format inkjet printers for sign and display markets, today announced the official opening of its first manufacturing factory in the Kingdom of Thailand. The factory is also the first outside of Japan. Located in Sinsakhon Printing City & Industrial Estate Phase 2, Samutsakhon, this new factory is expected to become the region's major production center outside of Japan. It will serve as one of the worldwide export hubs for the group.
Mr. Masahiro Tomioka, President of Roland DG Corporation, Japan, said: "As the economic expansion in developing countries including Asia is expected to grow further in the mid to long term, we decided to establish a production base in Thailand so as to plan and manufacture products which meet the demand of developing countries. It was Thailand's good infrastructure and logistics, plus the availability of skilled labor, which made Thailand a very attractive destination for us. But more importantly, it was the presence of strong supporting industry network established through the efforts of the Thai government to attract companies to the region, and the investment incentives from The Thai Board of Investment (BOI) that made Thailand the location of choice for our global expansion."
The purpose of establishing a factory in Thailand is also to increase the number of manufacture and procurement facilities available. Whilst Thailand experienced disastrous flooding two years ago, the damage incurred from the earthquake and tsunami that same year in Japan disrupted the supply chain, and even affected the procurement of parts for our products. Establishing manufacturing and procurement functions not only in Japan, but also overseas has merit from the viewpoint of cost and increasing price competitiveness, as well as holds merit on the point of risk reduction.
While there has been a recent slight easing in the strength of the yen, its sudden rise in value after the Lehman Shock required action; with procurement of parts in other currencies besides the Japanese yen being another purpose of this factory, allowing us to avoid foreign exchange risks. Furthermore, having become a group organization, our company is currently pushing ahead with its "Global One" reorganization in order to respond quickly and flexibly to meet increasingly complex global market and management environment changes. With this restructuring, the factory in Thailand will become a central base for operations in the region, and will be highly effective for responding quickly to the needs of developing countries and realizing prices demanded by the market. In the near future, it is expected that the factory will not only handle manufacturing and procurement functions, but also assume planning and design functions.
The construction of the Thai factory was started in January 2012 with an initial investment of Bht. 200 million and became fully operational in October 2012. With the recent floods which plagued the region in and around Bangkok in mind, this new factory was designed with the floor of the factory at 190 centimeters above sea level, and 300 piles 26m long were driven to support the building from soft ground.
Mr. Akira Suzaki, President of Roland Digital Group (Thailand) Ltd., commented: "Our Thai factory initially began manufacturing the RE-640/RA-640, a popular wide-format inkjet printer. Employing excellent staff and using the 'Digital YATAI,'a cell production system originally developed by Roland DG, that features guided on-screen instructions and other automated systems, enables the Thai factory to utilise advanced manufacturing level to the same quality achieved in Japan. While minimising risk caused by human error, the Digital YATAI system makes it possible for anyone to assemble the product, and has contributed to the smooth launch of the factory. There has been production of over 400 units by the end of 2012 since the factory started mass production on 1st of October 2012. The first export of RE-640/RA-640 from the factory was made on October 27, 2012 to China, India, South Africa and Europe. The production of other printer models, such as the metallic printer VS series, is expected to be transferred from Japan to Thailand in the middle of this year. The company is planning to produce 3,700 units in 2013, and reach maximum capacity of more than 5,000 units in 2014."
Roland DG markets its innovative products and services in 133 countries through a network of partnering companies. This includes 9 subsidiaries and master distributors, including SVOA Public Company Limited, with which Roland has had a relationship for more than 25 years. As one of Thailand's leading computer IT system developers, SVOA represents Roland not only in Thailand, but also in Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos.
Roland DG ('DG' stands for 'Digital Group') was founded as a subsidiary of the electronic musical instrument maker Roland Corporation in 1981. The early 1980's marked the era when the personal computers were born, and were being developed by companies such as Apple, IBM, and NEC. Realizing the importance of computers to modern society, Roland decided to take advantage of the digital technology it had developed through the production of electronic instruments and applied it to computer peripherals in order to cultivate a new market, thus forming Roland DG.
Roland DG firstly developed Computer Music, which allowed the user to compose and automatically perform music using a computer, and also the pen plotter, which was initially developed to output musical notation for songs created using the Computer Music by moving a pen horizontally (X axis) and vertically (Y axis) across the surface of a piece of paper. In the 1980's business grew rapidly as the market for pen plotters expanded to manufacturing design and development departments, and construction offices to draft design and schematics. During this time exploring other options began and replacing the pen by a cutter enabled Roland to begin development on cutting machines, and by adding height (Z axis), 3D milling machines and engraving machines. The 1990's marked the time when Roland changed its flagship product to cutting plotters and shifted its focus to the sign market. Realizing the importance of color signs, Roland developed and introduced its first wide-format color inkjet printer. Currently Roland continues to focus on its color business with its wide-format inkjet printers, which has secured more than 40% of the world market share, as well as the 3D business that includes 3D milling machines, 3D scanners, and engraving machines.
In recent years, Roland DG has witnessed the rapid advancement of computer graphics technology. Roland DG's technology therefore helps artists, designers and other professionals use digital imagery to produce everything from prototypes to works of art. This dovetails well with its global brand message "Imagine." It is a simple word; yet it is innovation's most powerful force.
Mr. Tomioka elaborated: "We believe 'Imagine.' can open up a world of possibilities. Today, Roland DG is committed to embrace the power of 'Imagine.' by making it possible for our customers everywhere to 'Transform their Imagination into Reality'.

28-Nov-2012 New White and Metallic ECO-SOL MAX 2™ Inks
New white and metallic inks drastically increase productivity and offer specialised colour applications for the recently released SOLJET PRO4 XR-640.
Sydney, Australia, November 28, 2012 ― Roland DG Corporation, the leading worldwide provider of wide-format inkjet printers and printer/cutters for professional durable graphics, today announced to start shipping the newly-developed ECO-SOL MAX 2™ white and metallic silver inks for SOLJET PRO4 XR-640, the industry’s most advanced eco-solvent printer/cutter to date. This will enable use for a wide range of applications, including window graphics, vehicles graphics, large posters, decals and labels with excellent added-value, fully utilising the potential of the XR-640.
“The XR-640, an eco-solvent inkjet printer cutter, was announced in September this year as our flagship model. With the newly available white and metallic silver inks, the XR-640 has achieved almost double the productivity of predecessor's in the same class,” said Conrad Birkett, Roland DG Business Development Manager. “In fact, the standard mode of the XR-640 can match the image quality and density of its predecessor's high quality mode. As a result, you can now print high quality large-scale items in a much shorter time frame.”
With drastically improved density, the newly developed ECO SOL MAX 2™ white ink, is particularly useful for the production of applications using transparent film or materials. For example, when producing decals to be applied to vehicles or bicycles, colours can be accurately matched by first printing a base layer with white ink, and then carrying out full-colour printing over the top. In addition, the pigments of the new metallic ink are more reflective for a much brighter result^. These new inks will now produce applications that have a much greater impact and enable users to add value to their offering.
Furthermore, the XR-640 has refined the automated ink circulation system, which prevents the pigment in white and metallic ink from settling. As well as maintaining stable output quality, waste of white and metallic inks required for maintenance has been cut by around 50% in comparison with predecessor’s model, contributing to significant reduction of running costs.
About the SOLJET PRO4 XR-640
The 64-inch XR-640, which won a Viscom best of 2012 award, combines accelerated print speeds with Roland's renowned integrated print/cut technology, an innovative new print head design, and new ECO-SOL MAX2 inks in nine colors: cyan, magenta, yellow and black (CMYK), plus light cyan (Lc), light magenta (Lm), white (Wh), metallic silver (Mt) and new light black (Lk). The XR-640 is designed for volume production while allowing the professionals in sign graphics market to express their creativity with high-end effects and finishes as well as to create the profitable new applications and markets.

14-Nov-2012 Roland Users Claim Multiple PICA's
Proud Roland users Prints Alive and Mercury Creative, take out several awards at the recent NSW and SA 2012 PICA events.
Sydney, Australia, November 15, 2012 - Leading wide format manufacturer Roland DG Australia is proud to announce a number of awards won by Roland Users at the 2012 PICA (Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards) events.
The Printing Industries Craftsmanship Awards, known as PICA, celebrate excellence in the print, packaging, and visual communication industry, and recognise the special efforts of printers by awarding their best work. Gold award winners go on to the annual National Print Awards.
Prints Alive from South Australia, were rewarded with a Gold in Wide Format Printing, for an impressive pull up banner produced on their Roland VersaCAMM VS-640 printer cutter.
One thing that sets Prints Alive apart from its competitors is that it custom profiles all medias. "We pride ourselves on exacting colour - it is an ethic that our customers appreciate," Managing Director, Warren Darker commented. "When the time came for our small two-person business to expand its offering into outdoor signage, the Roland VS-640 was the pick of printers.''
After carefully profiling the HVG media the Roland VS-640 was able to produce an accurate and impressive result for the winning banner. "There were a lot of grey tones within the image around the metallic parts of the car, as well as a background which needed to be free of colour casts and show off the beautiful sharpness and contrast of the image,'' said Warren.
Warren continued, "We were so pleased with the result, so we entered the banner into the PICA awards for South Australia and came up trumps!"
Another winner, this time at the NSW PICA event, was Mercury Creative, an independent, integrated print and design company located in Pymble, NSW. Mercury Creative took out a number of awards on the night including Gold and Silver in the Wide Format category, and Bronze in both the Multiple Piece category and Small Business category.
"For a small business we had huge success," said Sam Lane, Print Director at Mercury Creative. "Obviously a large part of this is due to the machinery used to print our winning entries."
Both Gold and Silver awards were printed on their Roland XJ-640 wide format printer and the Bronze awards utilised a number of Roland devices including their new VS-640 printer cutter.
"In short, we wanted to thank Roland DG for providing such awesome machines," said Sam.
Roland DG Sales Director John Wall, commended the winners, "Congratulations to Prints Alive, Mercury Creative and all other PICA winners. It is great to see the industry rewarding high quality work and we are proud to see that Roland devices are enabling users to achieve outstanding results."
Prints Alive and Mercury Creative will now go on to the National Print Awards to be held in 2013.

The designs were printed with the versatile Roland VersaCAMM VS-640 printer/cutter, using the 3M IJ-180CV3 media. The metallic ink combined with the 3M 8518 gloss laminate made for spectacular results which are sure to turn heads as the vehicles are out on the open road.
"As the brand we aim to inspire our users to try and to achieve new applications," said John Wall, Sales Director at Roland DG Australia. "With so many Roland users specialising in this area, there is a lot of pressure to do it well and create something inspiring. If nothing else, the new wraps demonstrate the striking metallic effects that can be achieved with metallic ink, and we hope to inspire our customers to find similar success in creating new opportunities with the metallic solutions".
The world's first metallic eco-solvent ink was released in late 2009 for the SOLJET PRO III XC-540MT printer/cutter. After winning a prestigious DPI award for Best Ink in 2009, Roland DG also released the revolutionary new VersaCAMM VS Series in 2010 with the metallic ink option. The VS Series with the famous Roland print & cut functionality, metallic ink and now available with a double white ink option, is fast becoming a very popular machine for sign writers, particularly with those who specialise in vehicle wrapping.
Clayton Ockerby and his experienced team at Pivot Creative made easy work of the wraps, and were impressed with the vibrant colours and application of the metallic ink. "We produce & install dozens of vehicle wraps a month, so we see plenty of different designs and applications" said Clayton. "We really liked the vibrant blue in these new Roland wraps, and the application of the metallic ink was quite impressive. Our Roland XC-540 has never let us down, but seeing this impressive metallic application definitely challenges me to think about an upgrade to the XC-540MT metallic option."
The recently expanded Roland DG service fleet is an integral part of the Roland DG Care customer support programme. Roland DG Service Engineers travel thousands of kilometres each week to visit customers, provide technical advice and perform regular maintenance as part of the Roland DG extended warranty programme. Keep an eye out for the new look Roland service vehicles at your next service, driving around Sydney or Melbourne, or visit one of the Roland DG Creative Centres to view the vehicles and a vast range of other unique applications produced by Roland DG.

26-Mar-2012 Specialised White Ink Configuration
Introducing Specialised White Ink Configuration for Roland VersaSTUDIO BN-20 and VersaCAMM VS Series
Sydney, Australia, March 27, 2012 - Roland DG Australia, a leading worldwide provider of wide-format inkjet printers and printer/cutters, today announced that the VersaSTUDIO BN-20 and VersaCAMM VS Series eco-solvent metallic inkjet printer/cutters, now offer a specialsed new ink configuration for white-colour printing applications. This new configuration is available in 5 colours for the BN-20 - cyan, magenta, yellow, black and white; and 7 colours for the VS-Series - cyan, magenta, yellow, black, light cyan light magenta and double white. Users can choose the ink configuration that best suits their business needs at the time of purchasing.
"Currently white colour printing is available for screen printing and gravure printing," said Conrad Birkett, Business Development Manager Roland DG Australia. "However, the high costs involved in plate making and paper use with these traditional methods means that small lot printing becomes unprofitable. Moreover, these traditional methods can take several days just to deliver a few pieces of print. With the new white-colour configuration, Roland's BN-20 and VS Series are an ideal solution for small printing businesses, design offices and medium-sized screen printers to increase productivity, add value to their offering and cover a wider-variety of their customer's needs."
In today's market, the life cycle of a product is getting shorter, and as a result visual communication tools are becoming more significant to enhance retail promotions and drive sales. With innovative solutions such as the new white ink configuration, Roland DG aims to provide printing businesses with the tools to meet the growing demand from brand owners, retail outlets and design houses for small lot and specialsed printing.
VersaSTUDIO BN-20 - Compact and Low Running Cost
The BN-20 is a 20" (515mm) wide compact desktop ECO-Solvent inkjet printer/cutter. The BN-20 allows you to print small lot graphics on a wide variety of media including transparent film. You can also easily produce prototypes of soft packaging, bottle packaging design and labels right from your desktop. The BN-20 will allow you to save production costs and time with the unique Roland Print&Cut workflow that prints and contour cuts graphics of virtually any shape. In addition, by using transparent film users can achieve a luxurious feel where it appears as if there is no label at all, which is useful for beauty products, and various packaging applications.
VersaCAMM VS Series - High Opacity, High Speed and Quick Dry
The VS Series Eco-Solvent inkjet printer/cutters are available in 4 different widths: 30" (762mm), 42" (1071mm), 54" (1370mm) and 64" (1625mm). Using transparent film and the new white ink configuration with high-opacity white, the VS Series can produce a wide variety of high-quality applications such as small lot packaging prototypes, window displays, or labels and decals. The new white ink configuration increases speed by 200% for standard white colour printing compared to the previous Roland configurations. Furthermore, white colour printing is twice the speed for the double white setup compared with the previous Roland configuration for high productivity. The combination of a dedicated dryer and blower fitted on the VS-series device vastly increases productivity, and assures efficient drying of the white ink even in high opacity mode.
TIFF Merge Function Assures High Quality Printing of Process-Colour and White Colour
For precision printing, "TIFF Merge" function has been added to both the BN-20 and the VS-Series. The TIFF Merge function sends and prints a process-colour data file and a white-colour data file at the same time, preventing any gap between the two files, which can occur when the two files are sent to the printer and printed separately.

14-Feb-2012 Roland DG Intruduces the METAZA MPX-90M
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, FEBRUARY 14, 2012 - Roland DG Corp., a leading worldwide provider of 3D milling
, engraving and direct part marking technologies, today introduced the new METAZA MPX-90M, a desktop impact printer designed to permanently mark UDI (Unique Device Identification) barcodes on medical instruments for tracking and traceability. Incorporating 30 years of Roland's proven technology, the MPX-90M quickly creates two-dimensional (2D) DataMatrix barcodes that meet GS1*1 standards, and imprints them on the surface of medical instruments with high speed and precision. MPX-90M barcodes can be read with commercially available barcode scanners*2 to trace and track the usage of medical instruments throughout their lifecycle.
"To protect the safety of patients, medical professionals need a reliable way to trace and track the usage of instruments such as scalpels, tweezers and forceps," said Matthew Landrigan, Roland DG 3D product manager. "The new MPX-90M has been exclusively designed for this application, marking tools and devices with lasting barcodes, serial numbers and other information. Among the industry's most precise direct part marking tools, the MPX-90M creates 2D DataMatrix barcodes as small as one square millimeter."
The MPX-90M imprints data on a wide variety of materials*3 without generating any odor or debris. Because it does not burn or remove materials, marked surfaces remain protected from corrosion. With the MPX-90M, no special training is required. The included vise makes it easy to secure an item and a built-in laser pointer pinpoints the exact area to be marked. Its compact footprint and energy efficiency make the MPX-90M ideal for small office settings, as well as medical-instrument manufacturers and suppliers.
METAZA MPX-90M Features
- Durable diamond-tipped stylus directly imprints on titanium, stainless steel and other hard metals*3
- Quickly imprints 26 digits of information inside an area as small as one square millimeter
- Clean, high-speed precision marking does not burn or remove material on impact
- Operation is free of odors and debris
- Marked area will not rust
- Includes GS1 standard 2D DataMatrix barcode software
- Imports CSV spreadsheet files for variable data printing which allows for serialisation of barcodes
- Imprints logos, text and graphics in jpg or bmp file formats to incorporate branding elements and other customised data
- Easy to setup and use with the included vise and built-in laser pointer and no special training or daily maintenance required
- Compact footprint and energy efficient design make it ideal for small office settings, as well as medical instrument manufacturers and suppliers
- The built-in laser pointer is safe to use, with a fully enclosed, class 1 laser
Included METAZAStudio Software Generates UDI Numbers
The MPX-90M comes with METAZAStudio software, which includes a 2D DataMatrix barcode feature. To create a unique barcode, simply select the barcode icon from the software's main screen and enter the appropriate UDI numbers. The software does the rest, creating a 2D DataMatrix barcode that can be output on the MPX-90M. METAZAStudio also imports CSV files for variable data printing to add 2D DataMatrix barcodes with a series of numbers and text. METAZAStudio also imprints logos and graphics in jpg, bmp or Adobe Illustrator 8 (ai/eps) file formats to incorporate branding elements.
For more information download the MPX-90M Brochure, or contact Roland DG today on 1800 500 119 / email sales@rolanddg.com.au.

27-Sep-2011 Roland DG Appoints Starleaton for Wide-Format Sales
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, September 27, 2011 - Roland DG and Starleaton Digital Solutions have inked a dealership agreement to offer the entire range of Roland DG printers, printer-cutters and cutters to the Australian market, commencing immediately.
"It's a major move for our company," says Director Garry Smith, "the Roland DG range is deep and wide - literally up to 2.6 metres, with around 28 unique hardware products to offer, plus inks and consumables. Roland DG's build and reputation sits well with Starleaton's philosophy and we already supply a lot of media to Roland DG users - it's a great fit in with our hardware range and enables us to offer signage and display total customer-care packages including hardware, RIP, ICC profiling, inks and media. We're very excited about the possibilities."
The acquisition of the Roland DG dealership adds considerable fire-power to Starleaton's existing hardware offerings. It immediately opens up the roll-fed UV sector with both print-only and print and die-cut models for labels and decals. Furthermore, sublimation printers such as the VersaArt and Hi-Fi Express are perfect partners for Starleaton's Neschen textiles and soft signage range. The VersaUV LEJ-640 brings to customers a hybrid 64" UV/LED flatbed printing on composite sheets such as Starleaton's Gatorfoam, Kapa and Forex, for under $80,000.
Roland DG AdvancedJET AJ-1000i and SolJET Pro III series take roll-printing capabilities up to 2.64 metres while the remarkable VersaStudio BN-20 offers a desktop print and cut label printer for under $9,000. Packaging proofing and prototyping is addressed with the VersaUV LEC-330 which features white and clear inks.
John Wall, Sales Director at Roland DG Australia welcomes Starleaton as a dealer; "We are selective who we appoint as dealers and following meetings both here and at overseas events, we are comfortable that Starleaton will be a valued long-term channel partner for Roland DG products. We are delighted to add them to our family of dealers and look forward to working closely with their sales and support teams to address and further the Roland brand into new market segments."
"There is so much more with Roland DG," says Smith, "I believe this agreement has changed Starleaton as a company, we are not just adding another brand to our range; we have extended our services and offerings to customers exponentially."
Starleaton Sales Manager Campbell Hughes adds; "It's a game-changer. With Roland DG, we've just morphed into something a lot bigger, but we'll never lose our family-values and commitment to keep our promises to customers."
